Quilling

| Quilling |
Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper
that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative
designs. The paper is wound around a quill to create a basic coil shape.
The paper is then glued at the tip and these shaped coils are arranged
to form flowers, leaves, and various ornamental patterns similar to
ironwork.

Paper
Although I cant find a lot of information on this piece at the moment, I'm definitely going to try and research a bit more into it. The paper work in this piece reminds me a lot of a hobby that I did when I was at school called Quilling. What you do is you take strips of paper and shape them and twirl them. I don't know why I never made this connection before but it is a lot like filigree just with a different material.

I absolutely love this idea of beautifying the streets with giant pieces of jewellery that make people take a second look. If I saw this while working down the road I think I would have a smile on my face all day it would just make me that much happier inside.

Cup Cake Experiment
For our B-tech we each get a turn to bring a treat for our weekly meeting. I decided to make marbled cupcakes with chocolate icing and obviously topped with Smarties. But the thing was there are only 6 of us in B-tech and my mixture made way more then 6 so I decided to put them in the studio with a little sign just saying Happy Thursday. I did not expect this to be entertaining at all but it turned out to be quite funny, it was like a little social experiment of mine. So what people did was they looked at the cupcakes longingly but they weren't sure if they could take one or not. Eventually 2 first years looked at me for the nod and when they got it they went and told everyone they could have the cupcakes. All the people who walked past and not taken a cupcake because they were either too polite or too confused then came now that they got the go ahead.
