Enamel Mess up

Enameling was going so well today. Then all of a sudden it started going down hill and the enamel was looking terrible. Will have to try again tomorrow.

Neckpiece Prototype

Figuring out how to join the continents. I tried to rivet the pieces together but the enamel cracked slightly. So then i tried to melt balls on the end of the wires the first one I did messed up the enamel slightly but I got better as I went along.

Filigree History

Filigree in Greece at least evolved during the classical period of Greek art, which started around 475 BC. It was also well known in Mesopatamia, Egypt and Byzantium. The word Filigree actually derives from the latin filum "a thread or wire" and granum "a grain or head". Peter Peterson

Identity jewellery

Personalisation has become a very big part of the accessories industry particularly in jewellery. While monograms and initials are still popular, designers are finding new ways to customise including tapping into social media culture and other unique identity features.

Social media handles

Online and digital media is at the forefront of fashion culture right now and jewellery is no exception. Designers are now giving consumers the ability to personalise their items using Twitter handles and Facebook names.

Fingerprints

The one thing every individual has that is supremely unique to them are their fingerprints. With new technology, designers can take fingerprints, lip prints, paw prints, and everything else in between and turn them into beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces.

Hometown

Zip codes, states, area code and map coordinates are new ways people are representing their roots and identifying places significant to them.

Lola Brooks

Lola Brooks takes an unconventional look
at the conventional subjects of Love and Romance.
Her work is certainly not conventional in size -
in fact it’s much larger than one would expect.
It’s not conventional in choice of materials -
she takes humble steel then mixes it with gold,
 diamonds and various other gemstones.
It’s not conventional in attitude -
her work makes droll tongue-in-cheek references
to clichés about love and sentimentality.
In fact, everywhere one looks one can see
roses attached to hearts, and bows attached to hearts,
and hearts attached to hearts.
Why this ardent interest in all things related to romance?
There is a good deal of thought behind this work and
it’s interesting to get the 'why' of the work
while also enjoying the beauty of it.

Filigree Brooch

Sterling silver frame with fine silver filigree Africa brooch.

Alcohol Ink

Red alcohol Ink on my Africa shapes. I love the red colour.

October I Heart Market

This was not a great market. Didn't even sell one piece. People seem to be window shopping for what they want to get for Christmas. So hopefully next month they will start buying.

Earring labels

Made new earring holders for the market. I wanted them to have a pop of colour with the students name and a clear price to make people feel more comfortable. I had a lot of comments from customers saying that the prices must be clearly displayed otherwise they feel awkward.

Ring Tops

I came across these rings on Carrot Box.At the moment I am really liking the look of rings with a design which you can see from the side.

Charm Rings

While looking in the library today i found a book called 30 minute rings by Marthe le Van. I really like the charm ring that i found in it. I am hoping to make a few for the market. Think they will do really well.

Country Neckpiece

So this idea did not work out in metal as well as it looked in my head. All the pieces went in any direction they felt like and eventually got so tangled that I lost my patience. So I am going to try this again soon, just need to leave it alone for abit.

Aija Kivi

I found this ring on Pinterest by Aija Kivi. I love how the filigree is sitting onto of the ring like this but I do worry about its wearability, I think that would get distorted very quickly.

Showcase

I am trying to get a showcase made for the Buzzart Exhibition in December at the NSA.
I drew the showcase I want on Rhino, just hope it makes sense to the carpenter who makes it.
