Maike Browning

I really like the idea behind these earrings, that when you look at them on someone straight on they may just appear as simple earrings but when you look at them from the side the detail shows. I think this would be very effective with filigree in the sides.

Finding a little inspiration

So I have been feeling very uninspired lately because I have just been making orders which I have received off my Facebook page and jewellery for the markets and I want to try get back into making more contemporary pieces. So I am going to try find a piece of jewellery, an object or a pattern that inspires me to get my creative juices flowing again.

Identity jewellery

Personalisation has become a very big part of the accessories industry particularly in jewellery. While monograms and initials are still popular, designers are finding new ways to customise including tapping into social media culture and other unique identity features.

Social media handles

Online and digital media is at the forefront of fashion culture right now and jewellery is no exception. Designers are now giving consumers the ability to personalise their items using Twitter handles and Facebook names.

Fingerprints

The one thing every individual has that is supremely unique to them are their fingerprints. With new technology, designers can take fingerprints, lip prints, paw prints, and everything else in between and turn them into beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces.

Hometown

Zip codes, states, area code and map coordinates are new ways people are representing their roots and identifying places significant to them.

Woven Bracelet

Sabrina Dehoff at Première Classe autumn/winter 2013/14
This another woven bracelet. I really dislike the centre pieces but I love the pattern created in the plat work.

Viva La Carnival

One of the Trends this season is called Viva La Carnival.
The playfulness and joie de vivre of carnival season brings spring/summer 2014 jewellery to life. Taking inspiration from artisan craft workers and the adaptable spirit of carnival costume, designers use mixed materials, coloured gems and folk arts.
The line between precious and non-precious or fine and costume jewellery has been blurred with vibrant, energising results. There is a naive, DIY feel to this look, with unexpected material combinations including feathers, pompoms and raffia channelling a high-summer Latin mood.

State Necklace

This is a necklace that I found on Baublebar. I have seen necklaces like this alot on Pinterest and it is under the catagory of best sellers Thinking of doing countries like this instead of the continent of Africa.

BaubleBar Pop up Shop

This is a pop up store in New York by a online accessories website. It is awesome to see a shop where the jewellery is the main attraction instead of being in a corner. What I like about this store is the simple lay out done mainly in white but with pops of colour.

Taara Jewelry

I found this necklace on wgsn. I love the red cord. Going to try learn how to weave a cord like that.

Ingeborg Vandamme

I found this picture on Pinterest.
I was drawn to it immediately. The first reasoned why it caught my eye was because in the platinum project there was a category called Adventure Tourist and this would have worked perfectly.
It would be such an awesome way to move forward with my Africa's and be able to still incorporate colour.

bone, oxidized copper

The reason I am attracted to this piece is because it feels so delicate. I also like the contrast in colour between the copper and the bone.

Pierced Pastel Lace Earrings

I love the colour in these earrings. According to Pinterest she uses spray paint to achieve these colours. I really want to try this soon.

Jasmine Watson

Jasmine Watson is a jeweller who works with enamel and silver. Her pieces work alot with symmatry and repetative patterns.

Nora Rochel

I really love this necklace!!!
I feel like she could have just taken pieces off the forest floor, stringed them together and spray pained them white.

Diffusion

I have to give a small power point to the 1st years on what I'm doing my B-tech on. I found this completely confusing. Had no clue how I was going to give a talk on combining art and commercial jewellery to create pieces which people would purchase. I mean in 1st year you hardly even know what art jewellery is! So my lecturer suggested I do it on diffusion...so in other words you could take a big elaborate piece and brake the elements down and create smaller pieces out of it...but still have the fun of making a truly interesting piece.
On my journey of finding information to do this PowerPoint I discovered a Jeweller called Nora Rochel who I feel does exactly what I am trying to explain.

Giovanna Gariboldi

Necklace: Filigrana 2009
Paper

Although I cant find a lot of information on this piece at the moment, I'm definitely going to try and research a bit more into it. The paper work in this piece reminds me a lot of a hobby that I did when I was at school called Quilling. What you do is you take strips of paper and shape them and twirl them. I don't know why I never made this connection before but it is a lot like filigree just with a different material.

Liesbet Bussche

Liesbet Bussche is a Belgian designer. For her exhibition ‘Mirror Mirror’in France. Bussche has based the jewellery on Suzy Solidor french sosialite in the 40's.
I absolutely love this idea of beautifying the streets with giant pieces of jewellery that make people take a second look. If I saw this while working down the road I think I would have a smile on my face all day it would just make me that much happier inside.

Lola Brooks

I discovered a Jeweller called Lola Brooks. She has a website http://lolabrooks.com/ which for some reasoned I can’t get into, probably something really obvious that I missed! I discovered her piece while going through pinterest and absolutely loved it. The piece I saw originally was the Blood Garnet Heart brooch.
The reasoned I was attracted to it was because I feel like it relates a lot to my B-tech. Although it is a heart with bows on it (which are both very commercial) she has managed to give it her own twist by using different materials. This piece is made from vintage rose cut garnets, stainless steel and 18kt gold. I later discovered the Bubblegum Heart Brooch with a really cute enamelled bow which is now on my Jewellery wishlist.

I feel so inspired by her work and it makes me think that sometime during my B-tech I could accomplish my aim of making 'artistic" pieces which the public will like.
